Day 1: Giving Back to MoDOT
"They just don't get any thanks. Everybody complains about the roads, and I want to thank them for all they're doing. They're tired, they're hungry, and I want to feed them. I figured 'Let's do it,'" said Distler. "I just thought it would be a great idea. They thought I was crazy, but that's alright."
The Pizza Hut set up a free buffet so that emergency highway workers, police officers and firefighters could enjoy a warm meal after being out in the cold all day.
"We try to do everything we can to help with the community, and anytime they pay us back, I mean, we don't expect it. But it's very deeply appreciated," said Tim Young, Jefferson City Fire Captain.
Distler coaxed the Eastland Pizza Hut to give out free food to workers there as well.
