Deadly Highway

Natasha Haggre lives right off of Highway 63.

"I think they should build a crosswalk for us," she said.

A car struck Haggre's neighbor, John Gregg, Wednesday, just miles north of where 16 year old Amanda Nowlin was killed just hours before.

The Highway Patrol says these deaths don't mean 63 is more dangerous than any other highway.

"Highway Patrol does say they do have a problem with this particular part of the highway because of this residential area, and that convenience store just across 63," said Sgt. Paul J. Reinsch. "Natasha Haggre lives off of 63 because it's a shorter way to get to the store instead of walking all the way up there if you ain't got no vehicle," he said. "We don't recommend they do that because of the traffic and how fast it moves."

"Just take those extra few seconds to let that traffic go through or let that other car go by," he said.

For those on foot, Reinsch says they should, "make sure that roadway's clear before they actually try to cross the roadway."

Haggre says she will not cross that roadway on foot again. This is the second time this year a pedestrian has died trying to cross the highway near the AC exit on 63. People living in the neighborhood nearby say everyone does it.
