Democrat Kander outraises GOP Missouri Sen. Blunt in 2016
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) — Democratic challenger Jason Kander has raised slightly more money than Republican Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt since the start of this year, though Blunt still has nearly twice as much in the bank.
Campaign finance summaries released Thursday show Kander raised $1.31 million from January through March while Blunt took in $1.25 million. Kander currently is Missouri's secretary of state.
Kander's campaign said the strong fundraising quarter shows he is well-positioned to take down the incumbent in this year's election.
Blunt's campaign touted his 2-to-1 cash advantage. When counting previous donations and expenses, Blunt's campaign now has nearly $5.5 million in its account while Kander has $2.8 million.
Blunt also has been spending more than Kander. He reported operating expenses of $810,000 this past quarter compared with $550,000 by Kander.
