Department of Natural Resources fined for violating Sunshine Law
JEFFERSON CITY- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) has been fined $5,000 for violating the Sunshine Law.
Court documents say members of Clean Water Commission took private tours of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) between January through March 2015.
The court found that, at the time of the private tours, there was a permit appeal pending, so the actions of the organizations exhibited "a conscious design, intent, or plan to violate the Sunshine Law and was done with awareness of the probable consequences.
The court said it was wrong for the commission members to obtain facts and evidence concerning the Callaway Farrowing site outside the hearing record.
