Deputies: Driver tries to swallow plastic bag after high speed chase
COLUMBIA - A St. Louis area man was in jail Wednesday morning after leading police on a chase and crashing into a tree around 2 a.m. in Columbia.
David Davis, 27, of Maryland Heights, was arrested on suspicion of a controlled substance, felony resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence, and careless and imprudent driving. Davis also violated his probation and parole.
The pursuit of Davis came to an end on Brushwood Lane.
After deputies tried to stop Davis in his Ford Fusion, he drove away at speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour for several minutes until crashing. Following the crash, Davis attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended soon after.
According to the Boone County Sheriff's Department, Davis attempted to swallow a plastic bag upon capture, which tested positive for cocaine. Davis is currently on probation for a previous drug conviction.
Nobody was injured during the pursuit.
