DNR Educates, Rewards Carpoolers
"Basically, since the price of gasoline has gone above $2 a gallon, it really makes a lot of economical sense to car-pool," said Larry Archer, Missouri Department of Natural Resources."We're talking for most people who make this ride, this Columbia to Jefferson City ride, we're talking about over a $1,000 a year that they can save by just adding one car-pooler. When you start adding more, you can get that up to $1,400-1,500 a year."
The DNR hopes their work in educating people about carpooling has long-term success.
"The reason we're involved is environmentally. If you've got a car-pool with four people in it, you're taking three cars off the road for this commute everyday," said Archer.
The DNR will abe handing out treats again on Thursday at the same location. You can find out more information on carpooling by calling 522-RIDE.
