COLUMBIA - The Boone County Fire Protection District has a new tool to assist with detecting explosives: a 3-year-old German Shepherd.

K9 Luke will work with Captain Martina Pounds to sniff out potential threats at local sports and entertainment venues. They'll work as a team with K9 Brass and Officer Joan Haaf from the University of Missouri Police Department.

Luke has been conditioned to detect a number of different explosive substances. He and Capt. Pounds finished basic K9 training with the Boone County Sheriff's Department, and became certified in tracking and explosives detection through the Missouri Police Canine Association in September 2017.
