Downed tree on power lines cause outages, small fire
COLUMBIA - A Columbia Water and Light spokesperson said a tree fell on the power lines at Glenwood Avenue and Rollins Road Wednesday afternoon, causing a small fire and temporary power outages. Columbia Water and Light's website said all power had been restored.
Columbia Fire Department put out the fire.
It took about an hour for Water and Light to arrive on the scene of the incident, but once they began working they made progress quickly. About six Water and Light trucks, two Mediacom vehicles and a fire truck were on scene.
Trees were visibly close to the power lines.
At one point, about 1,300 customers were without power. An email alert from Boone County Public Safety Joint Communications said the outages caused several traffic signals to malfunction along Stadium Boulevard.
