Driver in Danville Bus Crash Has Troubled History
KANSAS CITY - KOMU 8 News has obtained records from the Kansas City Police Department which suggest the driver responsible for Friday's bus crash in Danville has a poor driving record.
The department confirms it issued 72-year-old Wint Smith two tickets for a July 11 incident in Kansas City in which another driver said he ran a tour bus into a parked car. The department issued citations to Smith for careless driving and for leaving the scene of an accident.
Smith is scheduled to appear in municipal court in Kansas City on Oct. 16 for the citations.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol cited Smith for careless and imprudent driving in the Aug. 2 incident in which a bus carrying students and chaperones from the Missouri School for the Deaf rolled over on Interstate 70. Authorities said Smith was driving too fast on an exit ramp when the bus went off the road and flipped.
