Drivers Unaware of Construction at Stadium and I-70
COLUMBIA - Drivers did not face any inconveniences Monday afternoon driving near Interstate 70 and Stadium Boulevard despite construction work that was supposed to begin.
The construction project that was supposed to begin Monday will construct the first diverging diamond interchange in central Missouri and widen parts of Stadium Boulevard and Bernadette Drive.
Drivers in the area of the intended construction said they didn't notice any changes in traffic, let alone know that construction was supposed to begin.
Columbia resident Devin Brown was in the area to go out to dinner. Brown says if the construction began it would cause some inconveniences.
"Obviously with [streets] being closed down, I mean you have to change your route and do something different," said Brown.
Brown uses Stadium Boulevard near I-70 frequently to drive to work.
"It would obviously be a hinder. Especially if it's backed up with that many people in the mornings," said Brown.
University of Missouri student Eddie Bolden said he also drives in that area often, but didn't have any idea construction was supposed to begin.
"Traffic's really been flowing just like it usually does. I just came to shop and it doesn't appear that construction's been taking place," said Bolden.
MoDOT representatives were not available to comment, but a recent news release stated that most of the work would be done at night to minimize disruptions.
