Duncan HR Lifts Cards
Chris Duncan homered in the top of the ninth inning to give the Cards the 3-2 lead, and Ryan Franklin shut down the Pirates in the bottom of the frame for the save. The win is the fourth in a row for the Cards after a slow start to their 2007 campaign.
Cardinal right fielder So Taguchi had a great day at the plate going 3-3 with two doubles and reached base four times. Despite the day for Taguchi, Cardinal manager Tony La Russa went with Duncan instead of Taguchi in the ninth, and it paid off.
It was the second game this series the Cardinals took advantage of Pirates closer Salomon Torres. Torres surrendered the lead Tuesday night, and the Cards won the game in the 12th inning.
The Cardinals have Thursday off and open up a five game home stand starting with the Milwaukee Brewers Friday night.
