Early childhood education group prepares families for kindergarten
COLUMBIA– First Chance for Children (FC4C), an organization that prepares children up to 5-years-old for kindergarten, held an open house Thursday to spread awareness for early childhood practices.
The group provides supplies and resources for roughly 250 families across 8 mid-Missouri counties.
"All but one of our programs are income-eligible," said FC4C Co-Director Kasey Schaumburg. "Anyone is welcome to join our programming. Parenting is hard for everybody regardless of income or demographics."
FC4C's 'Lend & Learn Toy Library' is one of their most popular programs, where qualifying families can check out a toy that challenges the child's cognitive, language and motor development skills. The toys can be borrowed for up to a month.
"It's helpful to have another resource here in Columbia for parents," said Jennifer Thompson, mother of two. "It takes more than a parent's love, it truly take a village to raise a child."
The open house provided families with an opportunity to meet with FC4C staff as well as have a little fun, with a photo booth, pumpkin painting and carnival games.
