Eldercare Program Opens Second Location
The Eldercare Center has served 300 families in the past 17 years. The Columbia Area Chamber of Commerce dedicated the Sexton Road site on Friday, while Eldercare's director announced the program's new name: Adult Day Connection.
The name change reflects the service it provides to all adults who need daytime care, not just older ones.
"It would give the elderly something to do besides sit in the house and twiddle their thumbs," said Kathleen O'Neal of Adult Day Connection.
"I enjoy myself because there are a lot of us that we get together and we have fun, how do they say, we get together and we play," explained Carrie Sanders.
Sanders and other participants are encouraged to stay active, including playing games, making crafts, using computers, socializing, eating and dancing.
"There's not going to be a whole lot of rest. We will have activities around the clock," said Sonja Barnes, program coordinator. "Our goal is to keep the older population in their homes and active as long as possible."
Adult Day Connection's two locations are the only state-licensed adult daycare facilities in Columbia.
