Eleven Runners Treated at Jefferson City Cross Country Meet
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) -- High temperatures at a Jefferson City cross country meet caused 11 female athletes to seek medical treatment after the varsity race.
The Jefferson City News-Tribune reports three of the girls participating in the Jim Marshall Cross Country Invitational on Saturday were transported to local hospitals. Five others were given intravenous fluids at the scene.
Emergency medical technicians at the scene called dispatch for more help as girls started falling down as they crossed the finish line. One girl went down near the last curve before the finish line.
Runners from area teams and others around the state participated in the meet hosted by Jefferson City High School.
