ELLISVILLE (AP) - A second St. Louis County town may soon officially oppose the idea of a merger of St. Louis city and county.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Ellisville City Council met for a work session on Wednesday and Mayor Adam Paul asked the city staff to write a resolution similar to one passed recently in Ballwin, opposing the merger. The council could vote on the resolution at a meeting on April 16.

Paul says he believes the merger would lower the quality of services in Ellisville, and raise the cost.

St. Louis city is unique in Missouri as the only city that is not part of a county. Top city and county officials say a merger would help end duplication of services.
