COLUMBIA - To ESPN viewers, John Anderson is humorous and witty. But in mid Missouri, the SportsCenter anchor is more than that.

Today, he announced a big philanthropic effort. The Mizzou alum's charity will hold a school supply drive in Columbia for schools in Joplin.

The charity will also donate ten thousand dollars to Joplin schools to help teachers stock their classrooms with all the supplies they need.

This all coincides with the John Anderson Celebrity Golf Invitational, which takes place July 10th-11th. And to add to it all, the invitational will still raise money for the food bank of central and northeast Missouri.

It also brings together a who's who list of sports celebrities. This year will feature Mike Alden, Jon Sundvold, ESPN anchor Michael Kim and even KOMU-8's very own Chris Gervino.

Last year's event raised more than $30,000.
