JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - The Department of Agriculture is considering how to require most gas sold in Missouri to be blended with ethanol. Lawmakers approved a law last year that requires gas to be blended with a ten percent ethanol mix whenever ethanol is cheaper than regular gas. The Agriculture Department released a draft proposal on how to carry out that requirement. Petroleum marketers are concerned that switching between regular gas and ethanol blends could force gas station owners to violate federal requirements. Department of Agriculture Director Katie Smith says the state rules won't replace federal requirements, and some business practices might need to be changed. Another potential problem is figuring out what prices to compare.
