Evangel announced $4 million budget cut, 44 job reductions
SPRINGFIELD (AP) — Evangel University of Springfield says it plans to reduce spending by $4 million, including cutting 44 faculty and staff jobs.
The moves announced Wednesday come after Evangel consolidated with Central Bible College and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in 2013.
The changes won't include dropping major academic programs, although underused majors will no longer be offered.
The Springfield News-Leader reports 32 faculty and staff have accepted retirement buyout offers and 12 others were told Wednesday that their jobs have been eliminated.
Evangel President Carol Taylor says the $4 million reductions represent 10 percent of the college's annual budget. She said the alternative to the cuts would have been a 12 percent increase in tuition.
The university will impose a 3 percent tuition increase next academic year.
