Ex-Missouri Police Chief Acquitted of Sexual Assault
HILLSBORO, Mo. (AP) - The former police chief of a St. Louis suburb has been found not guilty of sex crimes against a teenage girl.
A Jefferson County jury acquitted Scott Uhrig on Thursday after a one-day trial on charges of second-degree statutory sodomy and sexual misconduct involving a child. An earlier trial ended in January with a jury unable to reach a verdict.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Uhrig was police chief in the St. Louis County town when the girl said the incidents happened.
Prosecutors alleged he took naps with the girl and joined her in the shower beginning when she was in the sixth grade. He was also accused of blackmailing the girl into performing a sex act when she was 15.
The defense said the girl had motives to lie.
