Families Celebrate Last Family Fun Fest
COLUMBIA - The final Family Fun Fest of 2011 provided live entertainment and interactive arts and crafts for the whole family on Wednesday.
Columbia Parks and Recreation hosted the event every third Wednesday of the month since April.
Each month had a different theme to plan the activities around. This last event was deemed "Creative Kids."
The free event in Flat Branch Park lived up to the theme by including unique art activities and live singing, dancing and theater performances.
Two stages in the park showcased performances by Missouri Contemporary Ballet, T.R.Y.P.S. (Theater Reaching Young People and Schools), Babaloo Music and Fun (interactive musical comedy), P.A.C.E. (Performing Arts in Children's Education), and Odyssey Chamber Music Series.
It also offered visual and literary art activities for children such as clay sculptures, chalk and dry-erase art, make-a-magnet, shaving cream art, Recylebration, a scavenger hunt, face painting, and a magnetic poetry wall.
Other attractions included Box City created by Shepard Elementary fifth graders, a chalk art demonstration by Travis Nelson and a Bookmobile from the Daniel Boone Regional Library.
The Creative Kids event was made possible with financial support from Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs and the Missouri Arts Council.
The Family Fun Fests have been sponsored by the Convention & Visitors Bureau, KPLA 101.5, KOMU TV8, EntPro Entertainment and Columbia Home.
