Family displaced in Cole County fire
COLE COUNTY - A fire early Wednesday morning left a mother and daughter displaced and killed the family's pet cat.
Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a call on Dixon Drive at 2:26 Wednesday morning. Division Chief Jason Turner said the fire started in one room and was "non-suspicious."
According to the American Red Cross, the family received food from volunteers and is now staying with relatives.
He said they can't rule out an electrical fire. Turner also said there is an estimated $35,000-$40,000 in damages from smoke.
