Farm Bill Affects Missouri
Congress passes a new bill every five years. As it stands $5 billion will be allotted for the next five years for disaster relief.
Previously, no money was set aside in advance for disasters.
However, a complex new average corn revenue program is causing controversy. Missouri farmers said they do not like the nationwide program.
"The devil of course is in the details as with any piece of legislation, and some of the details are a little lacking in this, mostly due to budget constraints," said Hartsburg farmer Terry Hilgedick.
If passed, the ACR program would offer financial support to farmers on a state by state basis. Many farmers were hoping for a county by county or farm by farm system.
