Ferguson Conviction Upheld
Ferguson was convicted in 2005 of killing Columbia Tribune's Sports Editor Kent Heitholt. Ferguson's lawyer has 15 days to try to have the case reheard or transfer the appeal to the Missouri Supreme Court.
Kent Heitholt was found beaten and strangled in the Columbia Tribune parking lot on November 1, 2001. Police arrested Chuck Erickson and Ryan Ferguson in March 2004 after witnesses said Erickson talked about the crime. Erickson pleaded guilty in November 2004 to second-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action.
Ferguson was found guilty in October 2005 and sentenced to a combined 40 years in prison for second degree murder and first degree robbery. Erickson was sentenced to a combined 25 years in prison for second degree murder, first degree robbery, and armed criminal action.
