Fire marshal and police investigate potential arson in Columbia
COLUMBIA - The Fire Marshal and Columbia Police Department officers investigated a potential arson on the 400 block of Hirth Avenue in Columbia late Tuesday night.
A CPD officer said the residents smelled smoke when they got home and found some evidence of burns on the side of the house. However, CPD said there were no flames when the residents came home.
A CPD officer said firefighters came to the scene, but did not stay. CPD asked the residents questions while waiting for the Fire Marshal to show up.
The Fire Marshal told KOMU 8 News he only really noticed a couple of burned leaves.
CPD officers knocked on doors to question neighbors. They said no neighbors they talked to had any information.
CPD and the Fire Marshal all left the scene around 11:45 p.m.
