Firefighters rescue fawn from storm sewer
WENTZVILLE (AP) - A fawn is running free again after being rescued from a storm sewer in the eastern Missouri town of Wentzville.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported early Wednesday that residents heard a high-pitched wail coming from the hole and called firefighters.
They found the baby deer and managed to free it from the sewer in about 20 minutes. Assistant Fire Chief John Schneider said the deer did not appear to be injured.
Schneider isn't sure how the fawn ended up in the sewer. The mother deer was seen in the area and Schneider said authorities are hopeful the two are reunited.
