FARMINGTON, Mo. (AP) - A former clerk for an eastern Missouri criminal court has been sentenced to 120 days in jail and five years of probation for stealing tens of thousands of dollars in court funds.
The Park Hills Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/MzEw6E ) reports that Rebecca Buxton of Park Hills pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony stealing. She admitted taking money that defendants paid to the court.
Officials aren't yet sure how much money Buxton stole while serving as a St. Francois County Circuit Court clerk, but it could be as much as $99,000. She must pay restitution once the amount is determined.
Circuit Clerk Vicky Weible says her office has since changed procedures to ensure against theft by employees.
