Former Girl Scout Headquarters to be Auctioned
ST. JOSEPH (AP) - Two former Girl Scout headquarter buildings will be sold to the highest bidder this week. The Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri will auction off buildings on Thursday - one in Kansas City and the other in St. Joseph.
The Girl Scouts don't need the buildings because councils in St. Joseph, Topeka and Kansas City merged three years ago into the Midland Empire Council. The merger was part of a national effort by the Girl Scouts to shed headquarters in smaller councils.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports that the Midland Empire Council encompasses 17 counties in northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas.
