Former Kansas City Mayor lands New DC Job
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Mark Funkhouser, former mayor of Kansas City, has taken a new job with a Washington organization.
The Kansas City Star reports that Funkhouser will lead the Governing Institute, a new organization designed to help state and local governments by focusing on research.
Funkhouser, who was also the auditor of Kansas City before becoming a one-term mayor in 2007, has moved to Washington for the new job.
As head of the institute, Funkhouser said he would help lead discussions and conduct seminars on governance issues across the country.
The institute will be owned by a company connected with Governing magazine. In 2003, the publication named Funkhouser one of its public officials of the year.
