Four arrested for guns, cocaine after traffic stop
COLUMBIA - The Boone County Sheriff's Department said Thursday it arrested four people after a traffic stop in which deputies found four pistols and what is believed to be cocaine.
22-year-old Shewan Martin, 21-year-old Lajuan Martin, 24-year-old Joseph Luckett and Johnathan Banks were all arrested on various charges.
Deputies said they noticed a BMW without a front license plate on Prathersville Road about 7:38 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies said they stopped the car at Highway VV and Farrar Drive.
The sheriff's department said deputies detected a strong smell of marijuana and saw a .40-caliber pistol in the car.
Several additional deputies arrived on the scene and the four men were removed from the car, according to the department. Inside the BMW deputies said they found three more guns and a plastic bag with a substance they said tested positive for cocaine.
Shewan Martin was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, driving under suspension and an outstanding warrant for failure to appear. He was being held on a $10,250 bond.
Lajuan Martin was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon. He was being held on a $9,000 bond.
Luckett was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance inside a correctional facility. Deputies said they located a small amount of marijuana in his possession after he entered the jail. He was being held on a $13,500 bond.
Banks was arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance. He was being held on a $13,500 bond. Deputies said Banks is a convicted felon and not legally able to possess a firearm.
