Four Sailors to be Arraigned Following Deaths of Missouri and Ohio Navy Divers
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Navy will arraign four sailors in connection with the training accident deaths of two Navy divers in Maryland.
Navy Diver 1st Class James Reyher of Caldwell, Ohio, and Navy Diver 2nd Class Ryan Harris of Gladstone, Mo., drowned on Feb. 26 while working at the Aberdeen Proving Ground.
Arraignments for the sailors facing charges are scheduled for Wednesday morning. The Navy says the specific charges the sailors face as well as their identities won't be made public until the arraignments. A trial at Naval Station Norfolk likely wouldn't occur until November or December.
In August, five sailors were given administrative punishment for their roles in connection with the deaths. Four sailors refused to accept that punishment, leading to their arraignments.
