Four Tigers Drafted on Day One
Scherzer, a junior who went 7-2 this season, commented on today's events.
"Oh it's unbelievable, I'm on cloud nine. It's a great situation for me, it was kind of the team I wanted to get picked by. You know I can't be any happier. It was just unbelievable when I hear my name called. You know I know how hard I've worked to get to this point. I realize to be a first round draft pick, being a first round draft pick is a really special thing, and I'm enjoying it so much, and it's just unbelievable."
Missouri's other ace pitcher Nathan Culp also got drafted today along with pitcher Brett Reynolds and outfielder Hunter Mense.
Culp, a left hander, was selected by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round. Culp had 11 wins this season which tied the school record for wins in a season. The junior is 24-11 during in his Mizzou career with a 3.66 ERA. Culp won a spot on the All-Big 12 first team this season to go along with his 2005 All-Big 12 second team selection.
Reynolds and Mense were chosen in the 17th round by Arizona and Florida.
The draft will resume tomorrow with the 19th round.
