Fulton HS Theatre Teacher Resigns
Wendy Devore sent an email to KOMU on Wednesday morning, announcing her resignation. She said she told her students she "can't remain silent any longer."
Some residents complained "Grease" was too provocative for high school students. Fulton's superintendent then prevented Devore from staging "The Crucible." Instead, her students are performing "A Midsummer Night's Dream," which is Devore's last play at the high school.
"I was very discouraged by all of this being thrown up in her face and her trying to do what I thought was a quality season of "Grease" and "The Crucibile," said Joe Potter, William Woods theatre professor.
Devore told students she will leave at the end of this academic year, although her resignation is not official until next month's Fulton school board meeting.
