Fulton Ready for New Look
"The shops, I'd say over the last 10 years, have evolved to the point where there are places where people from out of town want to come and see. The antique shops, the craft shops, the specialty shops are different shopping than you get in the mall."
After B&B Theatre closed its doors to open a new movieplex, the Callaway Arts Council took over the old cinema in early May.
The arts council plans to restore the building to its original state: a vaudeville playhouse and silent film theatre.
"This needs to be a regular drawing point for people, so that people have an excuse to come eat dinner, come see a play, eat dinner come see a band concert, eat dinner come see a children's concert, so that other businesses downtown are getting exposure from the people we're bringing to the theatre."
The arts council hopes other businesses will follow its lead to make downtown Fulton a cultural melting pot for residents and visitors.
