Amateur athletes from all over the state will be here the next three weekends. Show-Me State games officials say it's the best opening day they've ever had weatherwise. There are little league teams from throughout the state, in Columbia.

"I guess our philosophy is we don't holler and scream and yell at the kids, we just try to guide 'em and teach 'em the right way, and so far they've responded real well," said Chad Callahan, Little League parent.

Chad and his son Zac are the typical father-son duo. They say wherever they can play baseball, they do. Chad says the Show-Me State games is the mecca of baseball competition.

"Kids can learn, talk to kids from other parts of the state, north south east west, play better competiton, and see how they stack up against others," Chad said.

Zac approaches all the games the same.

"I'm a power hitter," Zac said. "I just try to think, just hit the ball and get on base."

Officials say the Show-Me State games are meant for all Missouri athletes. No special skills required, no outstanding records, just passion.

"I tell ya there's nothing anything greater than to watch a kid get a medal and just be beaming ear to ear with his smile and ya know and run over to his parents and show 'em... to me that's what it's about," Executive Director Ken Ash said.

For Zac and his dad, that's what it's about too.

"It's just a good time, baseball's a great game," Chad said.

The official kickoff ceremony is at 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2007. Those opening games take place at the Mizzou Arena.
