GetAbout Columbia: A Better Alternative
Commuting. It is a word some people may find intimidating but GetAbout Columbia hosted a free lunch seminar to inform people about bike safety when riding to work.
Whether it be by foot or bike some may never attempt to get to work this way but one Columbia man says he can't see himself go back to driving.
"It's a good way to exercise. I know that I wouldn't exercise everyday if not for having to do so to get to work," said Commuter, Noah Medeling.
GetAbout Columbia hopes you put away your car and take out your bike. The PedNet coalition works with GetAbout Columbia, promoting the benefits of alternatives to driving.
"I love to ride my bike to work because it makes me feel really good. It saves money for my family," said PedNet Coalition, Michelle Windmoeller.
And to get the word out that commuting to work is a good thing, this seminar focused on what bikers should do to be safe. Participants also got to take home some free bike accessories.
"The GetAbout Columbia program handed out free lights similar to this one because Missouri law states that every bike must have a white light in the front of it at night," said Windmoeller.
Medeling says commuting is no longer a bad word and going home is even better.
"It's just a nice way to separate home and work. Like I get on my bike and spend 20 minutes cycling and I'm not thinking about work anymore by the time I get home," said Medeling.
