Gobiernos de la ciudad de Columbia y del condado de Boone emiten orden de Quedarse en casa

COLUMBIA - Las autoridades de la ciudad de Columbia y del condado de Boone han emitido una nueva orden por la que se instruye a la población a permanecer en casa, así como se suspende a todos los establecimientos «no esenciales». Brian Treece, alcalde de Columbia, dijo que la intención de la orden de Quedarse en casa es disminuir al máximo la cantidad de gente en lugares públicos, para así limitar la transmisión del virus COVID-19.

Bajo esta orden, los pobladores no deben salir de casa, salvo para lo que las autoridades han designado como actividades esenciales, que incluyen compra de alimentos y medicinas, así como el cuidado de miembros de la familia en distintas casas. La orden también permite que sigan operando establecimientos esenciales, que incluyen, entre otros, centros de salud, tiendas y mercados de comestibles, farmacias, y compañías de construcción civil.

Si bien los parques infantiles están cerrados, la orden indica que se espera que los parques de la ciudad permanezcan abiertos, para que los pobladores puedan salir a caminar o participar en otras actividades recreacionales, siempre y cuando se mantengan a una distancia de dos metros (o seis pies) de otras personas.

La orden entrará en efecto el miércoles 25 de marzo a las 8 a.m., y se extiende hasta las 8 a.m. del 24 de abril y podrá prorrogarse.

Esta orden es similar a las instrucciones de las autoridades de Kansas City y de St. Louis, que entraron en efecto hace pocos días. Mike Parson, gobernador de Missouri, no ha visto por conveniente emitir una orden de Quedarse en casa para todo el estado, resistiendo la presión de líderes empresariales y de la Asociación de Médicos de Missouri. En una carta abierta publicada el lunes 23, la Asociación de Médicos dice que «Si las cosas continúan como hasta ahora, los pacientes con el virus COVID-19 van a agotar la disponibilidad en Missouri de camas de hospital, respiradores y los valiosos equipos de protección personal».

El gobernador ha manifestado que una orden de Quedarse en casa para todo el estado perjudicaría a las áreas rurales más que a las áreas urbanas, y que el impacto económico sería demasiado grande.
