Governor orders flags to half-staff for fallen soldier
JEFFERSON CITY - Governor Jay Nixon ordered Friday U.S. and Missouri State flags be at half-staff at all state government buildings on Saturday April 25 in honor of fallen Sgt. Rodney Griffin.
Griffin went missing when his Army helicopter was shot down on May 2, 1970 in Cambodia during the Vietnam War. Griffin was 21 at the time. His body was found this year and returned to Missouri.
Griffin's funeral is scheduled for Saturday in Centralia, his hometown. Governor Nixon said he will attend the funeral.
"As Sgt. Griffin comes home to Missouri at last to be laid to rest, we remember his bravery and honor his sacrifice on behalf of our country," Gov. Nixon said.
The Governor's order means flags should remain at half-staff until sunset Saturday.
