Group Looks to Develop Ponderosa and AC
COLUMBIA - The Parks and Recreation Committee is holding a meeting Wednesday night about the rezoning request to develop residential land around Ponderosa Drive and State Route AC. Aspen Heights is the proposed multi-family development that would contain nearly 40 acres of land at Route AC and Ponderosa Drive. The rezoning plan is being brought up by Regency of Missouri, Inc. and Breckenridge Land Acquisitions.
The Parks and Recreation Commission is concerned about Nifong Park which sits just south of the trailer complex. They do not expect the park though to be affected if student housing's put in.
"There's a large number of people living on the site," Parks and Rec Director Mike Hood said. "If it's rezoned, it becomes student housing. There's still going to be a large number of people. We expect about the same amount of use that it was going to have."
Hundreds of people in the Regency Mobile Park could loose their homes if the council approves the rezoning. Regency of Missouri owns the trailer park right now.
