Group seeking to recall Ferguson mayor to present petition
FERGUSON (AP) - A group seeking to recall the mayor of Ferguson said it planned to present a petition to the city council at an upcoming meeting.
The petition was a response to the August shooting death of Michael Brown and to city practices cited in a federal report.
Phil Gassoway, a leader of the Recall Knowles 2015 group, told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch the group needed about 1,828 signatures of registered voters and had collected about 2,200. Organizers planned to present the petition to the council Tuesday night.
If approved, the City Council would set a date for an election.
Knowles said an effort to push him out of office would set the city back and divide the community.
