AP-MO--HazardousSpill 04-12 0134 AP-MO--Hazardous Spill,0115 Spill closed interstate for six hours WENTZVILLE, Mo. (AP) -- Things are back to normal on Interstate 70 in the St. Louis-area town Wentzville today, but the westbound lanes were shut down for about six hours last night after a toxic situation involving a tractor-trailer. A motorist noticed smoke coming out of the truck and flagged down the driver. Half a dozen fire departments and two hazmat teams were called to the scene. The truck was hauling industrial batteries, some weighing two-thousand pounds. Inside the trailer, hazmat workers found a small fire and spilled battery acid. It was quickly extinguished. The biggest concern was high winds that could have blown the toxic fumes further from the scene. (KSDK-TV) (Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) AP-NY-04-12-06 0845EDT
