Hearing Set for Man Accused of Driving Body to MO
SALT LAKE CITY - A man facing a 2008 federal kidnapping charge for driving his dead ex-girlfriend's body to Missouri in a 50-gallon plastic bin is scheduled for a court appearance that could resolve the case.
Michael J. Doyel is scheduled for a joint change of plea and sentencing hearing Dec. 13 in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City.
He faces a punishment of life in prison.
Doyel is also facing a state murder charge in the death of Deborah Jones. An arraignment is set for January.
The cases were delayed when Doyel was declared incompetent for trial in 2009 and ordered to treatment.
A state judge ruled in July that Doyel is competent.
Jones died of strangulation. Her body was found in April 2008 in a car outside a Branson, Mo., motel.
