Hearings Resume in Taum Sauk Reservoir Collapse
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - Two former Ameren-U.E. employees say their computers showed nothing unusual about the water levels shortly before the Taum Sauk reservoir collapsed. The Missouri Public Service Commission Monday heard testimony from the man who ordered the hydroelectric plant to operate on December 14, 2005. Other testimony was from the person who manned the controls. One man was in St. Louis, and the other was at Lake of the Ozarks -- both far removed from the southeast Missouri reservoir. They saw nothing unusual in the reservoir readings, but the water actually was flowing over the top. That eroded the base and caused part of the wall to collapse, washing out the state park and injuring the park superintendent's family. The PSC is now in its third week of hearings.
