Heroes to Be Honored at Missouri State Fair
SEDALIA - The 110th Missouri State Fair is honoring Missouri heroes on three special days this year. Those include Military Appreciation Day on Sunday, Aug. 12, Missouri Firefighters Appreciation Day on Thursday, Aug. 16, and Law Enforcement Day on Sunday, Aug. 19.
"We are proud to honor military, firefighters, emergency personnel and those in law enforcement during the Missouri State Fair," said Fair Director Mark Wolfe. "It is important to recognize these men and women and their families that do so much for our great state."
There will be free gate admission for active military, veterans and delayed entry recruits on Sunday, Aug. 12. Gate admission for spouses of military and their children will be $1 and children five and under will be free. Military families will also receive a $5 off carnival ride wristband coupons, available at the admission gates.
A new themed day will be held during the fair this year to celebrate Missouri firefighters Thursday, Aug. 16. Free gate admission will be offered to Missouri firefighters, EMTs and paramedics. There will also be free fire helmets, sponsored by Monsanto, for kids under age 13 at Centennial Gate, while supplies last.
The day's events include a vintage fire equipment parade at 1 p.m. on the fairgrounds, which will showcase vintage fire trucks and emergency vehicles from across Missouri and the world-renowned Budweiser Clydesdales. Vintage vehicles will be on display at the Show-Me Tent immediately following the parade.
The Missouri State Fair finale will end with the introduction of the first Law Enforcement Day. Free gate admission will be offered to Municipal-County-State law enforcement Sunday, Aug. 19, the final day of the 2012 Fair. Gate admission for spouses of law enforcement and their children will be $1 and children 5 and under will be free.
