Hickman and Rock Bridge Face A Slippery Situation
In the third quarter, wet spots on the floor caused the refs to stop the game.
Bruce Whitesides, the Columbia Athletic Director, explained this problem further when saying, "We have about six inches of snow and ice, and right now it's melting and the water is finding areas where it's coming down."
There was a 45-minute wait while they tried to stop the leak, but, no luck. The referees suspended the game when Rock Bridge was up by one with a score of 20, and Hickman with 19.
After suspending the game, Hickman Athletic Director, Doug Mirts, added, " It was a good basketball atmosphere, and then you have to stop midway with a point differential, and then restart at some point. It's very difficult emotionally."
With the suspension of the game being problem enough, Steve Levingston, Rock Bridge Athletic Director, expressed some other concerns by stating, "The primary issue becomes an overall safety of both teams. You hate to have to redo something like this because of the crowds. There's a great support here from both schools."
The teams will pick up from where they left off at a future date.
