High school football team accepts "Buckle Up, Phone Down" challenge
COLUMBIA - The Rock Bridge Bruins are challenging other local high school football teams to accept MoDOT's "Buckle Up, Phone Down" Challenge.
Coach Van Vanatta said he and the players wanted to do a video (below) that draws attention to the importance of focusing only on the road while driving.
Vanatta said the Bruins were "fired up" when they were "called out" by the Jefferson City Jays, and thought it would be a great idea to "spread the message of distracted driving."
"Each player signed a contract with MODOT that they would wear their seatbelts and put their phones down while they were driving," Vanatta said.
Rock Bridge has now challenged five other high schools: Battle, Hickman, Francis Howell and Rockhurst.
