BOONE COUNTY - The Boone County Sheriff's Department arrested a motorcyclist early Friday morning after a high-speed chase through Columbia and Ashland.

Deputies said Leslie Dwayne Shoemate, 41, reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour during the chase, which began around 2 a.m.

The chase began when Shoemate passed deputies at high speeds near Vandiver Drive and Rangeline Road in Columbia. They say he then went south on Highway 63 toward Ashland. Deputies said Shoemate exited the highway, turned around and then headed north on Highway 63.

The chase ended when the motorcyclist crashed his Honda CVR 1000 motorcycle into a deputy's patrol car near Highway WW and Rangeline Road. Deputies said when Shoemate hit the patrol car, he was thrown from his motorcycle and tried running away before he was taken into custody.

No deputies were injured with the collision, but the patrol car was damaged.

Shoemate faces charges of felonies for resisting arrest, driving under revocation and careless and imprudent driving.

Shoemate posted $9,500 bond and was released from the Boone County Jail.
