MACON - A car chase on Highway 36 on Friday ended with three arrests, police said in a press release.

According to the release, a Macon police officer tried to stop a vehicle for speeding shortly before 10 p.m., but the vehicle didn't pull over. During the chase that followed, which at times reached speeds higher than 100 miles per hour, the suspect vehicle ran several other drivers off the highway. The officer reported seeing the driver and a passenger in the back seat switching seats at one point while the chase continued.

Eventually the suspect vehicle crashed on the side of the highway, and the driver got out and ran. Officers caught the driver and detained two others who were in the vehicle.

During a search, police found one of the suspects had a loaded handgun; a second handgun was found in the vehicle. Officers also found marijuana, meth and pills during their search.

The driver, 25-year-old Richey R. Farmer, was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, drug possession, driving without a license, unlawful possession of a gun and unlawful use of a weapon, as well as traffic violations. Farmer, who is from St. Joseph, also had a warrant for his arrest from the US Marshals Office for escaping from custody.

Police also arrested Billie J. Mollett, 26, from St. Joseph for drug charges, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a gun and unlawful use of a weapon, as well as traffic violations. Officers said Mollett was driving when police first tried to stop the vehicle, but switched places with Farmer during the chase.

The third person in the car, 29-year-old Bronson E. Vestal from St. Joseph, was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon and drug charges.

Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted Macon Police in the pursuit and investigation.
