HIlton Approves Downtown Columbia Site for Doubletree
COLUMBIA - Broadway Lodging LLC announced in a press release Friday that the Hilton Hotels Corporation has approved its application to construct a 114-room Doubletree hotel at 1111 East Broadway in downtown Columbia. That is the current site of the Regency Hotel.
The hotel will be called "The Broadway, a Doubletree by Hilton" and will be constructed on the site of the existing Regency Hotel. Hotel developer and owner David Parmley said, "(I) wanted to create a more boutique style hotel that can capture the unique spirit of downtown Columbia. Naming the hotel 'The Broadway' will allow us more design latitude and creativity that will differentiate the property from a typical Doubletree hotel while still taking full advantage of the Hilton reservation system, Doubletree systems and the HHonors travel reward program."
Construction of the new seven-story hotel will begin by the end of 2011, with an expected opening in spring 2013.
