The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot. The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
Jamie Holmes led the Cougars all season in batting average and was honored yesterday, as the Cougars finished their 2013 season, with American Midwest Conference First Team accolades as well as AMC Newcomer of the Year. The Human Services major maintains above a 3.5 grade point average and hit .386 this season. She added 34 runs, 11 doubles, four triples and four home runs while driving in a team high 28 runs and swiping a team high 16 stolen bases. The Republic, Mo. native also had a .988 fielding percentage, logging 300 put-outs, more than twice as many as anyone else on the squad.
