Honoring Veterans, POWs
This is the 29th year that the Department of Veteran's Affairs has honored the nation's prisoners of war and those missing in action.
Friday veterans came from all around mid-Missouri to celebrate being safe at home, and to remember those who never returned.
Major General King Sidwell of the Missouri National Guard spoke on behalf of POWs and the MIA, saying they've paid a high price for American freedom.
A VA staff member read the names of all 38 Missouri residents still missing in action.
"The largest group is still from World War II. And we're losing the World War II veterans very quickly and we need to take advantage of the opportunity to personally thank those people for their service and sacrifice," said Stephen Gaither with the VA Hospital.
The black and white POW flag flies on flagpoles all over the country Friday.
Saturday it will fly over the MU football game.
